This DUMBO/Brooklyn open loft office renovation offers a budget-conscious design centered around an open space, or “hub”, which is used for meetings of various sizes, large gatherings, dining, film/television screenings, or quiet work. Design concepts include angled hub walls of opposing textures and opacities for added visual interest, and varying levels of privacy. The semi-transparent panels simultaineously frame, filter, and block views into the space while allowing light to enter into the center of the floor.
Dividing panels were fabricated to our computer-generated patterns using water-jet cutting technology on expanded metal mesh. The dividers, even though made from a basic material, shimmer and dialogue with the existing permanent electrical service feeder lines that run overhead through the center of the space. Surrounding the hub, and nearest to natural daylight, are open staff workstations, glazed private offices, and conference areas.
